Currently a Title 1 lead teacher at Vigo Elementary School, Christina Lange has taught reading recovery, kindergarten, second, and fourth grade. Christina seeks opportunities to work with students who get labeled “difficult”—such as those with behavioral concerns who struggle to succeed in traditional classrooms. Believing that young people have reasons for acting the way they do, Christina uses research and professional development to better understand and serve students who are often misunderstood and dismissed by other adults.

Christina’s insatiable desire to learn and improve has prompted her to incorporate new techniques and technology into her classroom (e.g., iPads, laptops, interactive whiteboards, a Promethean table, and active votes). She is willing to do whatever it takes to help her students succeed. For example, Christina synchronously included a homebound student into her class via Skype, allowing the student to participate in lessons and activities as well as socialize with fellow classmates. She believes a love for learning is contagious, and she does all within her power to spread this passion to students and colleagues.
