Q&A with Will
How has INSPIRE or the School of Education helped you grow as a future teacher?
INSPIRE and the School of Education have helped me grow as a future teacher because I’ve been exposed to so many different ideas and methodologies that I can use when I go off and become a teacher in the future. Even if I weren’t to end up teaching in the future, I’m sure that so much of what I’ve learned could be applied in other aspects of my life.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE LLC so far?
I honestly don’t think I could list a single favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE LLC. I guess my favorite part of the LLC is the events that we participate in as a floor! We’ve done so many things together, from roller-skating to running through a corn maze in the fall, to having game days outside or just chilling and watching movies in the lounge.
What influenced your decision to become a Peer Mentor?
I wanted to give back to the community that had given me so much during my Freshman year. There’s not really much more to it than that. If I’m being honest I really didn’t want to leave the floor and I’m glad I get the opportunity to stay another year!
If you have any doubts about freshman year of college, are planning on going into an education-related career, or read the description of INSPIRE and are interested, just apply! You won’t regret your decision!
What are some responsibilities you have as a Peer Mentor?
Not getting into too much detail, we basically try and make sure that all of the freshmen have a smooth transition into college life. We also organize events throughout the year which can include Cultural Excursions or Fireside Chats. These are events where we expose the members of the floor to things that they might not know a whole lot about but will be beneficial for them to know for their future careers.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
If you have any doubts about freshman year of college, are planning on going into an education-related career, or read the description of INSPIRE and are interested, just apply! You won’t regret your decision!
What would you say to someone considering joining INSPIRE?
I would say that you should go for it! You basically get a group of built-in friends from the first day of college, what’s better than that?!
