How has INSPIRE or the School of Education helped you grow as a future teacher?
INSPIRE has helped me grow as a future teacher by introducing me to a wide variety of topics. It has helped open my eyes to all that the world has to offer and what all will effects my future students.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE LLC so far?
My favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE LLC has been group hang outs and game nights. I love being able to open my door and see someone there I can talk to and not have to worry about them judging me. I love that we a more then just a community but more like a big friendship.
What influenced your decision to become a Peer Mentor?
The past peer mentors influenced my decision to become a peer mentor. I also love being able to lead and help others along the way. I know how hard the first few weeks of freshman year are with all the transitions, so I wanted to be a help especially in those weeks (and beyond).
You will have friends from day one and a whole community that cares for you and wants you to succeed. You will be around people of the same major and have classes together, which means you have people you can work on homework with. And lastly you will learn so much more about education and how it works today, especially with DEI.
What are some responsibilities you have as a Peer Mentor?
Some responsibilities as a peer mentor is to mentor the freshmen in decisions such as classes and life. You want to be a listening ear and help guide them with what experiences you have. You also have the responsibility to make sure that freshman are getting settled and finding their groups and friends. Another responsible is overall just providing freshman throughout the year with whatever resources they may need. Finally you are responsible to introducing them to new topics through cultural engagements and fireside chats.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
If you are looking for a community of future teachers that cares about you when you are on a large campus, apply to INSPIRE!
