Q&A with Sarah
How has INSPIRE or the School of Education helped you grow as a future teacher?
INSPIRE and the School of education have both helped me grow so much in these first two years of school. Through both programs I am able to express myself and discuss important topics, such as teaching strategies, classroom management, and current events, with my peers. INSPIRE has pushed me to think more critically and to trust and have confidence in myself.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE LLC so far?
There are so many memorable experiences to choose from, so this question is hard! I love being able to walk out of my room and always have a friend sitting out in the lounge to hangout or do class work with. I also appreciate being able to hear different perspectives on different styles of teaching through different Armstrong Teachers, a group of recognized teachers in Indiana, throughout the year.
The minute I walked onto the INSPIRE floor I felt welcomed and at home. The floor as a whole was such a great community and I wanted to keep that community alive by becoming a peer mentor.
What influenced your decision to become a Peer Mentor?
The minute I walked onto the INSPIRE floor I felt welcomed and at home. The past peer mentors showed me that they were here for me and proved that over the year with all their support in both school and life. Also, the floor as a whole was such a great community and I wanted to keep that community alive by becoming a peer mentor.
What are some responsibilities you have as a Peer Mentor?
As a peer mentor, we help freshmen navigate campus, adjust to college life, answer questions about courses and course work. We also plan cultural excursions and fireside chats that the freshman attend along with fun activities around and off campus.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
If you are looking for 30+ amazing friends, supporters, and peers who have similar interests, INSPIRE is the place to be.
What would you say to someone considering joining INSPIRE?
Do it! I cannot imagine my college experience any other way :)
