Q&A with Shauntell
How has INSPIRE or the School of Education helped you grow as a future teacher?
Both INSPIRE and the School of Education have helped me grow as a future educator in the way that I am constantly being educated and challenged on what it means to be a teacher in this day and age and expanding my knowledge while also giving me opportunities to experience and witness the things I am learning in a classroom setting.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE so far?
My favorite experience as a member of INSPIRE is genuinely being in the lounge laughing with all of my peers.
The floor is a home away from home. It makes a huge difference being involved with an LLC as a first year.
What influenced your decision to become a Peer Leader?
What influenced me to become a peer leader was the opportunity to be able to guide and mentor first years with the same passion as me. INSPIRE mentors’ staff have done so much for me and I want to do the same or others.
What are some of the responsibilities you have as a Peer Leader?
As a peer leader I am responsible for fostering a community that thrives and flourishes on diversity, equity, and inclusion. I also form bonds with the first years and help to guide and expose them to different things not just within the school of education but throughout Bloomington as well.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
Advice I would give to someone considering INSPIRE would be this is one of the best decisions one could make. The floor, whether you continue with education or not, is a home away from home. It makes a huge difference being involved with an LLC as a first year and INSPIRE exceeds all expectations in the best way possible!
