Q&A with Grace
How has INSPIRE or the School of Education helped you grow as a future teacher?
INSPIRE has helped me grow as a future teacher because I have gained a lot of insight on successful teaching through the panels at seminar, fireside chats with educators, and research projects.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE so far?
My favorite INSPIRE experience was being able to have dinner with the National Teacher of the Year, Mandy Manning.
What influenced your decision to become a Peer Leader?
I wanted to be a peer leader so I could spend another year as a part of this community. I also wanted to be able to guide the freshman and be a resource for them.
I was very nervous to come to IU and the School of Education but INSPIRE really helped me branch out and make long lasting friendships.
What are some of the responsibilities you have as a Peer Leader?
As a peer leader, it is my role to help build community on the floor. We have formal roles like taking freshman on cultural excursions and hosting fireside chats for them to attend. We also have informal roles like ensuring that the freshman feel included, helping them with classes, and being there to answer their questions.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
INSPIRE is an amazing opportunity for all education majors to not only feel welcomed on campus but also to have access to so many teaching resources.
Anything else you would like people to know about you?
