Q&A with Claire
How has INSPIRE or the School of Education helped you grow as a future teacher?
INSPIRE has helped me a lot grow as a future teacher. INSPIRE is great for hosting opportunities to meet and talk with current teachers and get their perspectives on different topics. We have also taken several field trips to schools in Bloomington and gotten to see what life in different schools is like.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of the INSPIRE so far?
My favorite experience has been traveling to Puerto Rico with INSPIRE. This summer, seven students plus three adults traveled to San Juan and spent ten days there. We visited about 6 different schools and talked with so many people. We talked to teachers, students, principals and many others. It was so cool to see and hear all the different perspectives of people.

What influenced your decision to become a Peer Leader?
I wanted to become a peer leader because I love the community that INSPIRE creates and I wanted to stay a part of it. I wanted to help incoming freshmen feel as welcomed as I did last year.
What are some of the responsibilities you have as a Peer Leader?
As a peer leader, I am here to support students and make them feel welcomed. I am someone they can come to for advice or when they want to be social. I also help run some of the events INSPIRE puts on. I helped with two events during Welcome Week and I have to pair up with another peer leader to run a cultural excursion and a fireside chat.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
My advice is when you are considering applying would be to reach out to the people who run INSPIRE and speak with them. This was not something I did, so I came in not knowing what to expect. Other students had talked with our director or assistant director and had better ideas of what happens in INSPIRE.
