Q&A with Riley
How has INSPIRE or the School of Ed helped you grow as a future teacher?
I have met some of my best friends through INSPIRE, and created a community of future teachers who I know I can rely on for support.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of INSPIRE so far?
My favorite INSPIRE memory was the Ireland trip we took at the end of last school year. Although not everyone from INSPIRE was able to go to Ireland, I bonded with everyone on the trip and created friendships with people who I never though I would! It was one of the most educationally enriching experiences I've ever had and I am very thankful to INSPIRE for allowing me such an amazing opportunity to explore an education system and a culture so different from my own.
You'll immediately become a part of a growing community of future educators and teachers who want you to succeed.
What influenced your decision to become a Peer Leader?
I had great experiences with some of the peer leaders last year, and I wanted to continue to be involved in INSPIRE as a sophomore by being a mentor and to first year INSPIRE students.
What are some of the responsibilities you have as a peer leader?
I help first year INSPIRE students become more adjusted to living on INSPIRE and college life in general and introduce them to the School of Education. I also strive to be a positive role-model and leader for first year INSPIRE students. As a Peer Leader I'm also on the Environmental Sustainability Impact team with one other Peer Leader.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
I met my best friend and so many other amazing people while living on INSPIRE, and I never would have had the opportunities that I've had so far without INSPIRE. So, if you're thinking about applying to INSPIRE I suggest you give it a shot! You'll immediately become a part of a growing community of future educators and teachers who want you to succeed.
Anything else you would like people to know about you?
Along with my TAL major, I'm minoring in Psychology and I am also involved in Indiana University Dance Marathon, Student Council for Exceptional Children and Indiana State Educator Association here at IU!
