Q&A with Ellie
How has INSPIRE or the School of Education helped you grow as a future teacher?
I feel as if INSPIRE and the SoE have added to my knowledge of what it means to be a teacher, how to teach in this era, and what I aspire to be as a teacher. When I came to the SoE, I was only an elementary education major but through INSPIRE and its many events, I came to realize that I wanted to also teach special education so I switched my major to TAL.
What has been your favorite experience as a member of INSPIRE so far
Thanks to INSPIRE I was able to travel abroad to Ireland to experience a different education system than that of the United States. We were able to go to schools, meet children from Ireland, and talk with teachers about the major differences in our education systems. I have been abroad before but because it was a trip that focused solely on education, which is one of my passions, it was an incredible and fulfilling experience.
I love INSPIRE. The atmosphere is great, the people are friendly, and the resources afforded to you are incredible. I would highly recommend applying.
What influenced your decision to become a Peer Leader?
I knew I wanted to be a Peer Leader fro INSPIRE because I appreciated it when Peer Leaders last year made the transition easier to college for the freshman and transfer students on the floor. I wanted to be able to be a resource and friend for the new students on INSPIRE this year because I remember what it was like to be a scared freshman new to the School of Ed, IU, and Bloomington.
What are some of the responsibilities you have as a peer leader?
Some of the responsibilities I have as a Peer Leader are facilitating Welcome Week events, planning small group activities with my Peer Mentees, contributing to Seminar, and leading seminar sessions.
Do you have any advice for anyone who might be thinking about applying to INSPIRE?
I love INSPIRE. The atmosphere is great. The people are friendly. The resources afforded to you are incredible. The small community on a big campus make the transition to life at IU much easier. I would highly recommend applying to INSPIRE even if you are on the fence about it.
